Thanks for the comments. Cauvery will have good water now and should be a good time since the peak rainy season is over. It could be lot colder now I guess than when I visited. Regarding stay I do not have much idea other than what is already mentioned.

Can this place be visited in early December..any idea? I am also concerned about the stay part. I would appreciate if u could recommend any other place at a similar distance, as good or better where one can stay for a night or two.

BTW, very nice and interesting write up on your trip. I am new in Bangalore and was exploring a place to visit not so far away.

I think this will be the best time to do that when there is less water and is safer to take bath under the waterfall. They have a specific place (you can see the photo above which can be seen from the bridge) where bathing is allowed.

I visited Hoganekkal on 17th Oct 2010, even we took a Dharmapuri route. From Bangalore top highway till Dharmapuri around 150km and then single road to hoggenakal around 40 kms. Trip was excellent..only thing i found is we should go on Saturday instead on Sunday. Because of huge crowed on Sunday they charge double for boating...and boating is the imp thing with which you can enjoy Hogenekkal lot.

There is only Hotel Tamilnadu (run by TTDC) available there for stay. I am not sure if it is in any good condition. I had gone there for lunch and didn't find it very good. Other than that, you may find good places to stay at Dharmapuri (45 kms before Hoganekkal). I would suggest that instead of staying at Hoganekkal.

Its exactly the same time last year I went. So my description above should match what you can expect. From Bangalore your the major places you can have food are Hosur, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri.

I did not stay there. Started from bangalore at 8am and reached back at 8:30pm. There are not enough places to stay as per my understanding. There is a Hotel Tamilnadu besides the fall area. May not be a perfect place you want to stay.
